2019 Renovation

THE THIRD ACT - RENOVATION 2019

Why did we renovate?

Lakeside Little Theatre had not been seriously upgraded since 1997. Design issues included:

  • Seat comfort and space efficiency
  • Poor accommodation for mobility impaired viewers
  • Sub-optimal viewing angles from the auditorium
  • Antiquated and noisy cooling systems
  • Safety concerns especially considering our aging viewers and volunteers

How did we do it?

In 2018 a major funding campaign, The Third Act, began with the intent of supporting a major upgrade of Lakeside Little Theatre's facilities. Through the efforts and contributions, both financial and personal, of many individuals, plans and funds were accumulated to allow the project to begin in May, 2019, and with plans to finish in October in time for Season 55 to begin.

Key to the project were:

  • Canadian theatre architect Thom Weeks , who volunteered his time and expertise to create a plan for a new LLT facility
  • LLT Board President, Peter Luciano , whose vision and leadership enabled the project to take shape
  • LLT Board Director of Development, Dennis McCary , who led the fund-raising campaign
  • LLT Board Publicity Manager, Garry Peerless , who became LLT's Project Manager during the project's execution
  • Over 150 contributors, including several major donors of over 100,000 pesos, who enabled the project to be funded
  • Dozens of volunteers, who cleared and packed up the theatre prior to the project's start, and who participated throughout the project
